Durham University 2024 Brian Cooper Scholarship

The Brian Cooper Scholarship Fund will provide an annual scholarship to a local student in need of financial assistance. This scholarship is available thanks to a very generous donation by the family of Brian Cooper and will enable Durham University to award at least one £13,000 scholarship for several years.

This Scholarship complements the existing work that the University is undertaking to attract talented students from the region to study at Durham.

About Durham University

Durham University (legally the University of Durham) is a collegiate public research university in Durham, North East England, with a second campus in nearby Stockton-on-Tees. It was founded by an Act of Parliament in 1832 and granted a Royal Charter in 1837. It was one of the first universities to commence tuition in England for more than 600 years and claims to be the third oldest university in England (which would make it the seventh or eighth oldest in the UK), although this is disputed. 13,000 pounds per academic year which will contribute towards tuition fees, living costs, and other associated costs of study.

Requirements for Durham University Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification

  • The Brian Cooper Scholarship Fund will provide an annual scholarship to a local student with a household income level below 42,875 pounds as assessed by Student Finance England
  • Applicants should be residents of County Durham, at the point of submitting an academic application through UCAS for a place at Durham University, with preference being given to residents of the East of Durham.
  • Educated at a state-maintained school, college or other secondary education provider.


Interview date, Process and Venue for Durham University Undergraduate Scholarship

  • All eligible applications will be considered on the basis of their personal statements, reference and academic status.
  • Other scholarship awards may also be taken into account when considering the allocation of the scholarship.

Submit an academic application to Durham University by the UCAS deadline of 31st January 2024 and a scholarship application by the deadline including a personal statement describing:

  • your financial circumstances
  • how the Brian Cooper Scholarship would help you to study at Durham University
  • why you want to study at Durham University

  1. Submit a character reference

    Submit a character reference by the application deadline of 21st March 2024.

     

    This should be from one of your teachers in support of your scholarship application. Send by email to [email protected].

     

    Please ensure your referee submits the reference on letter headed paper which contains:

    • their name
    • position (e.g. teacher or employer)
    • contact details
    • the name of the scholarship you are applying for
    • your full name
    Submit a character reference 
  2. Confirm your funding

    Please provide a copy of your Student Finance England confirmation of funding letter once received to [email protected].
