Benefits
- The award provides full tuition fees with an annual stipend for 3 years and a Research Training Support Grant.
- The stipend will be set to the UKRI level for 2026/2027.
- The UKRI level for 2025/2026 is currently £20,780 for full-time students, or the pro rata equivalent for part-time students.
Requirements
- One PhD is available for Home fee-status applicants to the PhD Linguistics & English Language within the School of School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. Applicants should be working on a topic in the field of English Language.
- One further PhD award is available to Home fee-status applicants to the PhD English Literature within the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.

Selection Process
- As a student with us you will work with some of the most influential academics in your chosen field and learn about the very latest developments in your subject. Candidates chosen for funding will exemplify the high standards the University of Edinburgh sets for its research students and the investment that we make in their potential.
- Candidates with an outstanding track record of academic achievements and research potential are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be seeking to start their first year of full-time or part-time PhD study in 2026/2027.? MSc by Research programmes are not eligible. Candidates shortlisted for the award will be interviewed by the relevant School.
- Each school will aim to notify candidates of the award outcome by mid-June 2026.

- In order to gain access to the scholarship application system applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh. Please note that, following the submission of an application for admission, it can take up to five working days for all system checks to be completed and access to be granted. We highly recommend you apply for the scholarship well in advance of the scholarship deadline date should you encounter any technical difficulties with your application which need resolved.
