UAL Moorhouse Scholarships 2025

The Moorhouse Scholarships are valued at £10,000 each and support four Home or International students accepted into the full-time MA Textile Design course at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London, beginning in September 2025. Established in honour of Rodney and Tessa Moorhouse—both lifelong advocates for creativity and social equity—the scholarships aim to assist students facing financial hardship and reward those with strong academic potential. The award provides £5,000 toward tuition fees and £5,000 for living expenses, helping recipients focus on their postgraduate studies and creative development.

Requirements

To apply for the Moorhouse Scholarships, you must:

  • Be accepted on the full-time MA Textile Design course at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL

  • Be starting the course in September 2025

  • Home and International students are eligible to apply

  • Priority is given to applicants experiencing financial hardship who would benefit from postgraduate study

Interview Dates and Process

Closing Date: Sunday 31 August 2025

Application Documents

  • Completed online application form (found under the Funding tab)

  • Electronic portfolio (PDF, max 20MB) that includes:

    • Title page with your name and course title

    • Introduction (max 500 words) explaining your work, method, and inspiration, with focus on sustainability

    • Up to 15 pages of images, each:

      • Numbered and clearly labelled

      • Showing date of production

      • Including title, size, and materials (if relevant)

  • Most up-to-date CV or Résumé

  • Evidence of household income, such as:

    • Student’s bank statements (last 3 months)

    • Parent’s or partner’s pay slips (last 3 months)

    • Annual tax statements

    • Proof of other scholarships/funding

    • Investment, bond, or savings records
      (If not in English, include translated copies)

  • Medical evidence (if applicable)

    • Recent doctor’s or hospital letter (within the last 3 months)

  • Evidence of financial hardship (if applicable)

    • Overdraft notices, overdue rent letters, bailiff/debt collection letters, or other documents showing unexpected financial strain

How To Apply

Applications for this scholarship must be made by filling in an online application form via the funding tab in the UAL Student Portal.

In addition to the online application form, you will need to upload the following supplementary materials uploaded to the student portal:

  1. An electronic portfolio uploaded on the Student Portal containing one PDF document [20MB maximum] which should be an example of what you consider to be your best work for the Selection Panel to review, and must include:
    • a title page with your name and course title
    • an introductory page of no more than 500 words explaining your work, methodology and inspiration which highlights your passion for sustainability/ sustainable innovation.
    • Up to 15 pages of images with each image numbered and clearly labelled showing the date of production and, if relevant, title, size and materials used in the original piece
  2. A copy of your most up to date Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Résumé
  3. Evidence of your household income

Examples:

  • Student’s bank statements for the last 3 months and
  • Parent’s or Partner’s most recent pay slips for the last 3 months or
  • Parent’s or Partner’s annual tax statements and
  • External scholarship award for the current academic year notification and
  • Investments, bonds and savings for parents/partner and/or student

N.B. If you are a dependant then your household income includes the income of your parent(s) / guardian(s). A dependant student is a student who is financially supported (including payment of tuition fees) by parent(s) or guardian(s). If you are an independent student, your household income includes the income of your partner. Translated and original copies should be provided if the original copy is not in English language

  • Evidence of medical condition (if applicable)

Examples:

  • Doctors’ / Hospital letters

N.B. These should be from a qualified medical practitioner, signed, dated within the last 3 months. Translated and original copies should be provided if the original copy is not in English language

  1. Evidence of financial hardship* (if applicable)

Examples:

  1. Overdrafts
  2. Expenditure
  3. Overdue rent letters
  4. Bailiffs / debt collection letters

N.B. Translated and original copies should be provided if the original copy is not in English language

NB: If you have any technical issues when uploading your supporting documents to the student portal, please upload your documents via our online enquiry form 

*Financial hardship refers to unexpected events or unforeseen changes that have negative impacts

on cash flow or finances. For example: changes in income or expenditure, changes in employment status (such as losing a job or having hours reduced). This does not include last month’s rent or bills.
