The University of Brighton's Summer Hardship Fund offers non-repayable financial assistance to help continuing full-time undergraduate students who are facing financial difficulty during the long summer vacation. This grant is based on individual need and is assessed case by case.
Non-repayable grant
Direct cash payment to support living expenses over the summer
Amount not fixed; assessed based on need
To be eligible, you must:
Be a full-time, continuing undergraduate student
Be fully enrolled on a standard-length course and progressing in September 2025
Priority is given to students who:
Are lone parents
Have caring responsibilities (partner or immediate family)
Have disabilities/health conditions limiting ability to work
Receive the Estranged Students Bursary or Care Leavers Bursary (2024–25)
Students not meeting priority criteria can still apply if facing exceptional circumstances, provided these are clearly detailed with supporting evidence.
Application is assessed based on:
Financial hardship
Personal and health circumstances
Evidence of inability to earn during the summer
Supporting evidence is mandatory

There is a short application form to complete and you need to provide supporting evidence such as bank statements, rent or mortgage liability, DWP benefits and a covering letter fully explaining your reasons for applying.
