Two AHC Doctoral Scholarships are available for UK and International students for postgraduate research study in the following Schools: Design; English; Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies; History; Languages, Cultures and Societies; Media and Communications; Music; Performance and Cultural Industries and Philosophy, Religion and History of Science.
The award includes full fees and a maintenance grant matching UKRI rates (which was GBP 18,622 in Session 2023/2024).
These research scholarships are available for 3 years full-time or 5 years part-time study. Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this scholarship.

First, apply for a research place of study, through the online application form. Please state clearly that the funding you wish to be considered for is “The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures Doctoral Scholarship”. You will be expected to meet our eligibility criteria for PHD candidates (please refer to each School websitefor specific information).
In order to be considered for the Studentship you must submit all the required supporting documents for your application for PhD study. For application to PhD study, it is important to develop a well considered research proposal and the Doctoral College provides useful advice on how to write a research proposal on their website.
Once you have received your student ID number (a 9-digit number) move onto stage 2.
Stage 2
Apply for “The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures Doctoral Scholarship” by completing the Scholarship Application Form. You must submit your scholarship application by 17:00 p.m. on Monday 18th March 2024.
If English is not your first language, you must provide evidence that you meet the University's minimum English language requirements (below).
