In 2026 the University of Reading celebrates its centenary. The University is delighted to offer up to 5 Centenary PhD Bursaries to support new doctoral researchers as part of the celebration of its centenary year.

Benefits
Up to five Centenary PhD bursaries will be available for new applicants intending to commence PhD study in October 2026. The bursaries include:
- PhD fees at the Home rate for up to 4 years (full-time) or 6 years (part-time).
- A Research, Training Support Grant (RTSG) of £1500 for the duration of the studentship.
Requirements
- The bursaries are open to applicants from all Schools and disciplines.
- Applicants must have an offer of a place on a PhD programme to commence study in October 2026.
- The scheme is open to new applicants only. Current PhD students at the University of Reading are not eligible to apply.
- The bursaries are open to Home students only.
- Applications will be accepted for on-campus AND by-distance study.
- Bursaries can be for full-time or part-time study.
Selection Process
- The deadline by which to apply is 1st May 2026. Applicants for the bursary need to have an offer of a place on a PhD programme by this date.
- Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by mid-June 2026.

- Apply for a place on a PhD programme.
- Complete the Bursary application form, which requires applicants to submit a 300-word statement explaining why the University of Reading is the most suitable Higher Education institution for the applicant’s intended PhD.
- Submit the completed application form by email to the Doctoral Studentships Officer.
