The University of Southampton is introducing a new programme to support the reassociation of the UK with the Horizon Europe programme, and the University strategy to grow the international diversity of its doctoral cohort.
The University will apply a fee waiver - equivalent to the difference between overseas and UK fees - for eligible postgraduate research students commencing their doctoral studies in the 2024-25 academic year.
University of Southampton offers a range of bachelor, postgraduate and research degrees. Develop employability and career skills through placements and career events. Find out more. Choose your university.
The duration of the fee waiver is for the normal duration of the funding period (3.5 years) and is subject to the usual conditions of satisfactory progress.
The exact UK level for programme fees can be found here.
This funding may be used in conjunction with other funding schemes, such as scholarship funding that might be available under the UKRI 30% rule, EU MSCA doctoral networks, industry, government or other schemes, as well as self-funding.

The first step of applying for a PhD project is to contact a potential supervisor by email to discuss your interest in undertaking a PhD.
If you are interested in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), you can view our existing PhD projects which already have a supervisor attached to them - their contact details will be listed in the advert.
If you are undertaking a Humanities PhD, you will either need to propose your own project or work with a supervisor to develop one. You can find a potential PhD supervisor by typing in the subject you are interested in and looking for the green tick that indicates they are accepting new students. Through this link you can also view a list of their research interests, published papers and current and previous PhD project supervisions.
Once you have agreed a project with a supervisor, you can apply to Southampton via the button above.
