The Birkbeck Access to Postgraduate Study Scholarship is designed to support students who face personal or systemic barriers to accessing postgraduate education. It is funded by alumni and supporters of Birkbeck, University of London.
A non-repayable grant of £3,000 toward tuition fees.
Applicants must:
Be accepted onto a Birkbeck master’s degree (or awaiting a decision by the deadline).
Not already hold a master’s degree from a UK institution.
Have arranged to fund the rest of their tuition.
And meet at least one of the following:
Declared disability.
Care leaver (under 25 and in public care for at least 3 months).
Black, Asian, or minority ethnic background.
Single parent.
Unpaid carer for a relative, friend, or neighbour.
Hold refugee status.
Preference is given to applicants who have been out of formal education for 3 years or more.
Applicants are shortlisted based on eligibility and prioritised if they fall into more than one category.
Final selection is made by a panel of academic and administrative leaders from across the university.
