British Council GREAT Scholarship at University of Kent (January 2026)

The GREAT Scholarships programme is funded jointly by the UK Government's GREAT Britain campaign, British Council and the University of Kent, as part of the Study UK campaign.

The University of Kent are delighted to offer scholarships of £10,000 to French and Indian passport holders (who are also based in France/India), applying for a one year taught master's programme. The award will go towards the tuition fees.

Requirements

To be eligible for a scholarship, you must:

  • Be a French passport holder and live in France and be assessed as an overseas fee payer, or be an Indian passport holder and live in India and be assessed as an overseas fee payer; 
  • Have received a conditional offer for a full time course at one of our UK campuses and have accepted this before the deadline date of 21 November 2025;
  • Have submitted an expression of interest for the GREAT scholarship (please see below for full details)
  • Be starting your course in January 2026;
  • Be active in the field with work experience or proven interest in the subject area;
  • Be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI;
  • Be willing to establish an engagement with the UK as a scholar, through personal and academic fulfilment;
  • Represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships; and
  • Be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK.

Selection Process

Scholarships will be shortlisted based on academic achievement to date. Final decisions will also take into consideration your full programme application, including your personal statement and any references received.

The final recruitment and selection panel(s) will take place in the week commencing 9th December 2025. Applicants will be notified of the final decision shortly thereafter. If successful, the scholarship offer must be accepted within 2 weeks of receiving the award.

The University of Kent reserves the right not to allocate the awards if the selection panel identifies no suitable candidates.

The GREAT scholarship is subject to full University of Kent Scholarship Terms and Conditions, which will be provided to successful candidates at the point of award.

How To Apply

  • Applications for the British Council GREAT scholarship should be made via your applicant portal. This is an expression of interest – no essay is required. You will only be able to do this once you have received an offer for your programme from the University of Kent. If you haven't applied to Kent yet, submit your application now.
  • Once logged in, click on the applications tab and select your submitted application. Click on the funding button. You will then see a list of scholarships that you may be eligible to apply for. You will be able to apply for the GREAT once you have received an offer. Click on Apply and follow the steps to submit your expression of interest.
