Brunel, in partnership with British Council, is proud to offer five fully funded scholarships for female students from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka as part of the British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM.

Benefits

The Scholarship is fully funded and covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Monthly stipend (up to 12 months)
  • Return economy-class travel
  • IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid test of English)
  • Visa and Insurance/ NHS surcharge cost
  • Child allowance (where applicable)

Requirements

To be eligible for a British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM an applicant must:

  • Be a woman, as defined under UK legislation.

 Applicants must be able to confirm their legal sex as female, evidenced by passport or other official documentation. This will be a condition of acceptance.

  • Be in receipt of an offer to study on one of the above programmes by starting in September 2026.
  • Have been assessed by Brunel University of London as an international student for tuition fee purposes. Applicants who are unsure of their fee status should note Brunel uses the information you have provided in your application form to assess your fee status against regulations set by the UK government. For information on these regulations please visit the independent organisation UKCISA’s website.
  • Be a permanent resident of, and hold a valid passport or recognised international travel document from, one of the eligible countries listed below:
      • Bangladesh
      • India
      • Nepal
      • Pakistan, or
      • Sri Lanka

and be able to obtain a UK visa using the documentation they hold. Applicants must agree to return to their country of citizenship or residence for a minimum of two years after the scholarship ends, except in very exceptional circumstances where return would be impossible or unsafe.

  • Have an undergraduate degree that will enable them to gain access onto one of the eligible Brunel MSc courses.
  • Attain the level of English required for the chosen postgraduate course.
  • Be in receipt of an Academic Unconditional Firm offer of place on one of the above courses by 30 May 2026.
  • Demonstrate case for financial support. Applicants must not be able to privately fund their UK studies and must not be in receipt of financial support from any other source that duplicates the core benefits of the scholarship. Private savings that can top up the scholarship is permitted.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have not had any significant international exposure or previously studied in the UK. This includes distance learning at UK universities or study at UK branch campuses abroad. We define significant experience as a period of study over one month, or enrolment on or completion of an international degree course. Short term visits such as study tours or conferences are permitted.
  • Be motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course.
  • Be active in the STEM field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area.
  • Be willing to contribute to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement in their home country after graduating from the Master’s course in the UK.
  • Agree to their personal data being shared with the British Council for assessment and purposes of promotional activity, as a condition of applying for the scholarship.
  • Maintain contact with the Brunel University of London and British Council and act as an ambassador for the UK, and engage with Alumni UK activities during and after their Master’s course in the UK.
  • Demonstrate a plan and a passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from their home country.

 Those applicants not eligible for these Scholarships

  • Applicants NOT classed as Overseas for fees purposes.
  • Applicants who hold dual citizenship.
  • Applicants holding an offer on a course other than a course specified above.
  • Applicants who will NOT commence their course in September 2026 - applicants holding offers for deferred entry must apply for scholarships in the month and year they intend to start their course and not in the year of their course application.
  • Undergraduate applicants entering a course at any level.
  • Applicants applying for part time, distance learning or online version of the above courses.
  • An employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office).
  • An employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee of the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM – eligible countries.
  • Any applicant currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards a study programme in the UK from any other source.
  • Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary.

*Relatives are defined as parents or step-parents, siblings or step-siblings, children or stepchildren, spouse, civil partner or unmarried partner (where the couple have been in a relationship akin to marriage or civil partnership for at least two years).

Step 1: Applicants should apply for their chosen programme in the usual way, via UCAS or via the Brunel online application portal. See eligible programmes below.

Step 2: To be considered for the scholarship applicants must complete a scholarship application form, applicants will be required to explain why they would be a suitable recipient of the Scholarship.

Deadlines: Applications must be submitted by 11:59pm (UK local time) on Thursday, 30 April 2026. Late applicants cannot be accepted.

This is a British Council funded scholarship administered by Brunel University London, as such information contained in the application will be shared with the British Council.
