Chevening Gurukul Fellowship for Leadership and Excellence at University of Oxford 2025-26

The Chevening Gurukul Fellowship for Leadership and Excellence is the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s flagship fellowship for India and has run for more than 20 years. The fellowship is aimed at young high-flyers and mid-career professionals from diverse backgrounds with strong and demonstrable leadership potential. The fellowship addresses issues faced by leaders in all fields and explores changing ideas and practices of leadership, looking at the implications of globalisation for Indian leaders.

The fellowship is hosted by the University of Oxford within the Department of Politics and International Relations.

The fellowship is funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

About Chevening

Chevening is the UK government’s international awards programme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world. Aim and Benefits of Chevening Fellowship

The successful candidates can avail of the following benefits:

  • Full programme fees
  • Living expenses for the duration of the fellowship
  • Return economy airfare from India to the UK

Requirements for Chevening Fellowship Qualification

  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen currently living in the country.
  • The applicant must return to India at the end of the fellowship.
  • The applicant must have a master's level qualification or equivalent professional training or work experience in a relevant area.
  • The applicant must have at least ten years of work experience.
  • The applicant should be an experienced professional with leadership skills suitable for various fields like government, business, media, and non-profit organizations.
  • The applicant must have a good working knowledge of English.
  • The applicant must not hold British or dual-British citizenship.
  • The applicant cannot be a current or former employee, a relative of such an employee, or have worked for the last two years at Chevening Applications, the British Council, a UK university sponsor, or an ACU staff member.
