Computer Science PhD Studentship: AI-driven predictive analytics at Bournemouth University 2025-2026

Applications are currently ongoing for this fully funded PhD studentship. This project proposes the development of advanced AI-driven predictive models to address these challenges by leveraging modern machine learning (ML) techniques to enhance vessel performance and operational efficiency. 

The primary aim of this research is to develop innovative AI-based predictive analytics frameworks tailored for maritime applications, with focus in the following areas:

• Predictive Maintenance and Anomaly Detection
• Fuel Efficiency and Route Optimisation
• Multi-model sensor fusion
• AI-Driven Risk Assessment and Maritime Insurance

Requirements

Entry requirements:

• A BSc 2:1 or MSc in Computing, Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning or AI
• Available to UK and international students
• The studentship is based primarily at Talbot Campus, with short stints at the company in Poole.

International entry requirements:

An IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 minimum (with a minimum 6.0 in each component, or equivalent) for candidates for whom English is not their first language and this must be evidenced at point of application.
