The Corinne Burton Art Therapy Student Scholarship is offered by Goldsmiths, University of London, thanks to the generosity of the Corinne Burton Memorial Trust. This scholarship supports students pursuing the MA in Art Psychotherapy who are committed to using art therapy to support cancer patients.

Benefits

  • Up to 60% of tuition fees (Home rate) covered for each year of the MA program

  • £5,500 per year (for two years) after graduation, as a part-time salary while working as an art therapist with cancer patients

  • Recognition as a Corinne Burton Art Therapy Student during study and Corinne Burton Art Therapist post-graduation

Requirements

Essential

  • You must have received and accepted an unconditional offer of a place on the MA in Art Psychotherapy and hold resident status in the UK.
  • You should not already be in receipt of any grant or award for fees.
  • You must be prepared to undertake some part of your clinical placement in a hospice or in work with patients suffering from cancer, for which you will receive appropriate supervision.
  • You must agree to undertake part-time work in a hospital or hospice, normally in London or the South East of England, practising art therapy with cancer patients for two years following successful completion of the Masters programme.

Desirable

  • Some pre-course experience of working in a general hospital or in caring for terminally ill patients.
  • Familiarity with the art therapy literature concerned with the treatment of terminally ill patients.

Selection Process

Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • Motivation for applying

  • Personal and professional qualities relevant to working with cancer patients

  • Understanding of and commitment to art therapy in this field
    Final selection is made by a panel of senior academic staff. The decision is final and not subject to appeal.
