Education Opportunity Award 2025 at York St John University

The Education Opportunity Award at York St John University is designed to support underrepresented students entering a non-salaried PGCE course. Funded by a generous donation from a university alumnus, this award is available to individuals aged 25 or older who may face challenges accessing postgraduate teacher training due to circumstances such as being a carer, a parent, having a low household income, or experiencing major changes in family circumstances.

A total of six awards will be granted, each providing financial assistance to help recipients pursue their teaching qualification. Applications are open now and will close at 11.59pm on Friday 29 August 2025.

Applicants are required to submit a 500-word supporting statement, a written reference from an independent referee, and provide their York St John applicant number or student ID for eligibility verification.

Requirements

To be eligible for the Education Opportunity Award, applicants must:

• Be a UK student aged 25 or older

• Have accepted an offer to study a non-salaried PGCE course at York St John University

• Belong to at least one underrepresented group, such as:

  • Carers

  • Parents

  • Individuals from low-income households

  • Students whose family circumstances have drastically changed

• Complete the online application form, including:

  • A 500-word supporting statement outlining your background, challenges faced, and how the award will support your studies

  • Your York St John applicant number or student ID

  • The name and contact details of an independent referee (not a family member, friend, or partner)

  • A written reference, to be submitted separately by your referee via email to [email protected] before Friday 29 August 2025

Please note: the application form cannot be saved midway. You are strongly encouraged to prepare your supporting statement in advance and paste it into the form when completing your application.
