The University of Nottingham, in collaboration with Build Test Solutions Ltd (BTS), invites applications for a fully funded PhD studentship focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance low-pressure airtightness testing in buildings. Starting in October 2025, this interdisciplinary research offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data science, engineering, and the built environment. The selected candidate will contribute to the development of intelligent diagnostic tools that drive energy efficiency and sustainability in construction.
Full tuition fee coverage (Home students only)
Tax-free annual stipend of £20,780, with an additional £2,500 industry top-up

Applicants must hold at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as:
Engineering
Computer Science
Data Science
Physics or related technical fields
A strong foundation in data science, modelling, and/or engineering is essential.
Applicants must demonstrate motivation, curiosity, and an interest in real-world AI applications.
Applicants will be assessed based on:
Academic performance and qualifications (minimum 2:1 in a relevant field)
Demonstrated knowledge or experience in data science, AI, or modelling techniques
Clarity and relevance of their interest in the topic
Communication skills and the potential to engage with both academic and industry partners
Motivation to contribute to sustainable innovation in the built environment
