The University of Sussex are currently accepting applications for this PhD Studentship in “Applications of harmonic analysis in probability and equidistribution theory” (2026).
During the project you will work on research problems involving the application of harmonic analysis to the equidistribution theory of point configurations in various domains including the unit cube, the unit sphere, groups, manifolds and discrete spaces such as finite fields. You will conduct research using spectral methods in the theory of random walks and dynamical systems, and you will apply Fourier analytic methods in number theory.
The start date of the project is flexible, but no later than Autumn 2026. Applications submitted until 15 November 2025 will receive full consideration. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis after 15 November 2025. The final application deadline is 31 January 2026.
