GCU Foundation Common Good Bursary 2025

Common Good Scholarships provide vital financial support for undergraduate home (Scottish) students who have faced challenges, financially and otherwise, including those who are estranged from family and care experienced.

Supported by donors, including Sir Alex Ferguson CBEErnst Maas Education Trust Common Good Scholarships are awarded to candidates with the greatest level of need to help ensure that a university education is available to all talented students.

Benefits

Successful scholarship recipients will receive an annual payment of £1500 throughout their four-year undergraduate degree (an overall total of £6000) to help support living costs and receive additional support with graduation costs upon completion of their degree.

Requirements

GCU welcome applications from first year GCU students, who live in Scotland, starting in September 2025. We will prioritise candidates with the greatest need for support including students who are estranged and care experienced.

Funding is for a full-time first-year student over the course of their four-year undergraduate degree, starting from the intake in September 2025.

The award is non-transferable to any other course if you change your course to the one specified at the time of application. Awards cannot be deferred to another academic session.

By completing this application, you are authorising GCU to share details with the donor of your scholarship. Donors can be both individuals and organisations, and it means a lot to them to know they have helped talented students to achieve their education.

Recipients are required to provide a thank you note to the donor, and also a short, annual report on the impact of the scholarship at the end of each academic year. We may also seek your permission to include some information about you and your scholarship on social media and other channels in order to help promote support for students. However, this is with your permission only, and can also be anonymised.

Attendance is required at any scholarship-related events.
