Ian James Evans Scholarship at University of Essex 2025

Essex Law School is offering one scholarship to an undergraduate student studying an LLB course and who is deaf, blind or a wheelchair user, to cover Home (UK) tuition fees (or an equivalent discount for international students) and £500 per year towards books and other course costs.

£9,250 to cover Home (UK) Tuition fees, or an equivalent fee discount for overseas students; and £500 towards books and course related costs, for 3 years of study only

Requirements

This scholarship is for Home or Overseas students who are entirely self-funded. Students receivinga repayable loan to fund their studies will be considered as self-funded. Undergraduate students in receipt of a Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England (SFE) for living expenses would be considered, however this scholarship cannot be held in conjunction with a Tuition Fee Loan from SFE.

• Students must register for the first year (Year1) of a full-time undergraduate LLB degree at theUniversity of Essex in October 2025.
• These scholarships are restricted to students studying on any Undergraduate LLB course withinEssex Law School in 2025-26 only.
• Applicants must be either a wheelchair user, blind or deaf.
• Applicants must meet our standard conditional offer. This scholarship is available for three years of study only. It will not be available during Year 3 of the four-year Placement Year or Year Abroad degrees (i.e. the year in industry for Placement Year degrees, or the student exchange year for Year Abroad degrees).
• Only one scholarship award can be made per student and the award cannot be held in conjunction with any other University of Essex scholarships.
• Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities.
• Students must apply for this scholarship by the deadline of 31st July 2025 by 11:59pm (GMT)

Students who are not eligible

The following students are NOT eligible for this scholarship regardless of meeting the above criteria:

• Undergraduate students who are studying any course other than LLB.
• University of Essex International College students progressing from the International Year One.
• University of Essex International College (UEIC) Pathway students.
• Students undertaking a degree that is normally delivered wholly online.
• This scholarship award does not apply to deferred entry. Where a scholarship has been awarded to a student who subsequently defers entry to the following academic year, the award will be withdrawn and the applicant will be considered again in line with the terms and conditions that apply in the new proposed year of entry.
• Students transferring into the second year from another UK higher education institution.
• Students directly continuing from one course to another (for example from Foundation degree orHND on to the final year of an honours degree).
• Students who are fully or partly sponsored.
• Current students whose first year of undergraduate study at the University of Essex, was prior toacademic year 2025-26.

Applications received after this deadline will not be considered. On the application for you will need to include an essay demonstrating how the scholarship would enable you to meet your legal aspiration.
