Keele University offers financial support to undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who are care leavers or irreconcilably estranged from their families, helping them succeed in their studies with added financial stability.
£1,000 per year cash bursary
£500 graduation award in final year
Can be combined with the Access & Success Fund
To be eligible, applicants must:
Be a UK (‘home’) student
Be under 25 at the start of their course
Be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate taught Master’s course at Keele (starting from September 2018 onward)
AND meet one of the following:
Spent at least 13 weeks in care (e.g. foster care, children's home) since age 14 and were in care on their 16th birthday
Were privately fostered or under a Special Guardianship Order
Be assessed as estranged by Student Finance England or confirmed by a qualified professional
Note:
Part-time students receive a pro-rata award
Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma and fully online courses are not eligible
Students on apprenticeships or Harper & Keele Veterinary programmes are also ineligible
Students must submit evidence of eligibility:
Care leavers: a letter or confirmation from a social worker or local authority professional
Estranged students:
Evidence from a professional (e.g. teacher, social worker) confirming estrangement
Confirmation of independent status from Student Finance
Must reconfirm each year to continue receiving the bursary
