King’s College London 2025 Postdoctoral Research Associate

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on a new study funded by the Wellcome Trust. The aim of this project is to advance understanding of the lived experiences and support needs of minoritised ethnic people with multiple long-term conditions, and transform how healthcare providers, communities and policymakers construct, respond to, and support them in local and national contexts. 

The post holder will be based at the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine; a unique interdisciplinary community that connects social scientists, biomedical researchers and clinicians, who explore the complex social determinants of health, illness and ageing in a global perspective.

About the role

They are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on this exciting study. The post requires experience of conducting qualitative research and community engagement.  The post holder will assist with recruitment of minoritised ethnic people with multiple long-term conditions, their carers, healthcare providers, community leaders, and policy makers and conduct interview using narrative and creative approaches. The postholder will contribute to analysing the qualitative data collected, preparing high quality outputs, disseminating  research findings to different audiences and completing administrative tasks related to the study.

You will gain experience of conducting research in different settings, using innovative techniques to understand the support needs of minoritised ethnic people with multiple long-term conditions and collaborating with community organisations and policy makers.

Benefits

Requirements

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. PhD degree (completed or in the final stages) in sociology, social policy, mental health studies, or related social science discipline or equivalent experience.
2. Knowledge of and interest in research at the intersection of ethnicity and health.
3. Strong experience in qualitative research methods (including research ethics, interviewing, and analysis using software programmes such as NVivo.
4. Strong experience in community engagement (preferably with minoritised ethnic people).
5. Outstanding organisational and record-keeping skills and a capacity to work independently, once appropriate training and guidance is provided.
6. Excellent academic writing, oral presentation skills and computer skills and proficient in the use of applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
7. Experience in preparing high-quality manuscripts and submitting them for publication in academic journals.
8. Willingness to travel to Manchester, London and Coventry to recruit and interview participants.

Desirable criteria

1. An excellent understanding of participatory research methods (including co-production) 
2. Knowledge of intersectionality-informed approaches to research including in data collection and analysis.
3. Good collaboration skills, including with people with lived experiences, other research and academic staff and community organisations
