The Human–Robot Interaction PhD Studentship at King’s College London is a fully funded doctoral research opportunity focused on developing robots that can interact with people safely and intelligently, particularly in healthcare settings.
A relevant Master’s degree and/or research experience would be advantageous but is not essential. Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in human-robot interaction, socially assistive robotics, and healthcare applications.
Strong mathematical skills and knowledge of machine learning, together with excellent programming skills, are essential for this project. Candidates should also be highly motivated to work hands-on with physical robotic platforms, including systems such as the Mirokaï robot developed by Enchanted Tools, and to develop and evaluate robotic behaviours in real-world hospital settings.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working as part of an interdisciplinary team comprising researchers, engineers, healthcare professionals, and target users. Strong communication, analytical, and research skills, as well as an ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, are therefore important.
Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English-language requirements for postgraduate research study.
Applications are welcome from UK and international candidates. We particularly encourage applications from candidates from groups that are currently underrepresented in robotics, engineering, and related research fields.
The selection process will involve a pre-selection on documents and, if selected, will be followed by an invitation to an interview. If successful at the interview, an offer will be provided in due course.
Please submit the following documents. Applications exceeding the stated word or page limits will not be considered.
