Loughborough University Commonwealth PhD Scholarship UK 2027

Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) contributes to the development needs of Commonwealth countries by supporting PhD research that will have a developmental impact. They also enhance individual teaching and research capacity leading to increased institutional capacity in academic and other sectors in Commonwealth countries, and will contribute to UK higher education and research by attracting high-calibre international applicants and encouraging links and collaboration, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.

Benefits

• Full tuition fee discount, a stipend for 3 years and travel to the UK
• Commonwealth scholarships provide tuition fees and stipend for three years and airfare to and from the UK
• Some students may also be eligible for a family allowance

Requirements

You must:
•    Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person.

•    Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.

•    Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2027.

•    By September 2027, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honours standard, or a lower second-class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)*.

•    Not be registered for a PhD, or an MPhil leading to a PhD, at a UK university or in their home country before September/October 2027.

•    Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.

In addition to the CSC criteria listed above, you must also apply to a nominator. Each nominating body is responsible for its own selection process and may have additional eligibility criteria. You must check with your nominating body for their specific advice and rules for applying, and for their own closing date for applications.

You must make your application using the CSC’s online application system (CSCCentral), in addition to any other application that you are required to complete by your nominating body. The CSC will not accept any applications that are not submitted via the online application system.

How To Apply

If you are interested in applying for a Commonwealth Scholarship, you will need to make an application to CSC and be supported by your home country’s nominating body. You will also need to secure an offer of study from Loughborough University.
