The University of Manchester invites applications for a fully funded PhD research project aimed at improving how we estimate public exposure to air pollution. With over 4.2 million premature deaths attributed annually to PM2.5 pollution, this research contributes directly to public health efforts and policy. The project uses large-scale data integration from satellites, models, land use, and weather to better measure and understand pollution exposures.

Tax-free stipend of £20,780 per annum (2025/26 UKRI rate)
Funding covers 3.5 years
Potential to collaborate with global organisations such as the World Health Organization (WHO)
Applicants must:
Be UK students
Hold or expect to obtain a First or Upper Second-Class Honours degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or Computer Science
Show motivation for environmental and health-related research
Be eligible for postgraduate research in the UK
