Join a cutting-edge multidisciplinary team at the University of Lincoln as part of the AGROBOOST EU Horizon project. This research studentship is dedicated to pioneering the next generation of AI-driven harvesting robots by using gamified Virtual Reality (VR) training environments. You’ll help develop intuitive, user-friendly VR platforms enabling non-expert users to program complex robotic actions through game-based demonstrations—eliminating the need for code-heavy, traditional programming approaches.

Benefits

  • Funding: Full UK/Home tuition, tax-free stipend (£19,237/year), plus a budget for research activities and conference travel.
  • Please note: International students are encouraged to apply; however, the stipend will only cover UK/home rates. This means that the student would need to cover the monetary difference between the Home and International tuition fees. 

Requirements

Project Scope:

  • Design and prototype immersive VR tools to train agricultural robots and integrate gameplay elements to teach AI models robot tasks using human input.

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • First-class BSc or an MSc in Games Development, VR/AR, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Robotics, or related fields.
  • Solid programming skills (preferably Python and/or C#, C++).
  • Excellent communication skills
  • For international students: IELTS 6.0 overall, with a minimum of 5.5 in each element.

Desirable skills:

  • Experience developing HCI, VR, or robotics projects, and a portfolio of published work or game prototypes.
  • Familiarity with user experience design, machine learning, or robotics.
