The Professor Brenda Barrett Law Bursary is a financial support initiative designed to assist new Law students at Middlesex University. Open to both undergraduate and postgraduate first-year entrants, the bursary aims to ease financial pressure and enable students to focus on their academic success in legal education.
£1,000 bursary
Applicants must:
Be a first-year student enrolling in September 2025
Be on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate Law programme at Middlesex University
Be either a UK or international student
Be enrolled on the original programme by October 2025
Not defer or transfer the award to another year or course
Provide honest and complete answers in the application
Agree to participate in university promotional activities (exceptions can be made)
Applications will be shortlisted based on:
Demonstrated financial need (e.g., household income under £25,000)
Personal circumstances (e.g., being care-experienced, disabled, estranged, first-generation university student, etc.)
Academic motivation and alignment with Law at Middlesex
Quality of supporting statements
Willingness to contribute to outreach or promotional content
Completed online application form
Student ID (M number)
Supporting statements addressing:
Motivation for studying Law at Middlesex
Financial need and how bursary funds will be used
Expected impact of bursary on academic performance
Educational history (qualifications, dates)
Proof of any applicable financial/equity criteria (may be requested post-submission)
