The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Medical Elective Scholarship offers financial support to UK medical students undertaking an international elective. Designed to enhance global medical education experiences, this scholarship awards up to £1,000 to each of eight selected applicants annually. At least three awards are reserved for University of Glasgow students, with the goal of encouraging professional development and cross-cultural medical learning during a 4–6 week elective placement abroad.
£1,000 maximum per award with a maximum of eight awarded annually
You must be a medical student currently studying in the UK.
You must be an undergraduate student and/or an Affiliate Member of the College.
At least three awards are reserved for University of Glasgow students (these students must apply through the university's School of Medicine).
You must be undertaking a 4–6 week elective abroad as part of your medical school curriculum.
Your application must be prospective – scholarships will not be awarded retrospectively.
You must sign up for Affiliate Membership of the College to be eligible and include your personal ID (PID) number in the application.
Selection Criteria for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow Medical Elective Scholarship include:
Clarity and quality of your application, including details of your proposed elective abroad.
Academic performance and achievements as reflected in your CV (2–3 typed pages).
Relevance and educational value of the elective to your medical studies.
Demonstrated motivation and purpose for undertaking the elective.
Completion of all required documents, including the application form, CV, and PID (Personal ID for Affiliate Membership).
Interview performance if shortlisted — applicants may be called for interview during December.
Note: Preference is given to University of Glasgow students for at least 3 of the 8 awards.

Successful applicants are required to submit a report within two months of completing the scholarship.
Reports may be published on this website and will be retained in the College library.
Applicants may be called for interview during December.
Applications from students at the University of Glasgow should be submitted directly to the university at the address below. Students from other universities should submit their applications directly to the College.
