The prize was established by the School of Law in honour of their late colleague, Professor Stephen Livingstone (1961-2004). The fund is supported also by donations from Stephen's family and friends. Stephen was Professor of Human Rights Law, a former Head of the School of Law and Director of the Human Rights Centre, as well as a renowned human rights activist and Commissioner on the Northern Ireland Equality Commission.
This scholarship is designed for a suitably qualified UK/EU graduate, ideally with experience of working in a human rights-based NGO or similar organisation either in the EU or beyond, who has applied to undertake a taught LLM in Human Rights.
The award will be offered to the candidate as selected by the Postgraduate Board of Examiners with the highest Undergraduate degree average combined with the highest level of experience in a human rights NGO or similar organisation. The award can only be held by one candidate in any given year and will only be made upon successful registration for an LLM Human Rights programme.
