Benefits

You'll receive funding to cover the costs of completing your degree and to help you fully engage with your studies.

For 2026 entry, the scholarship consists of the following funding:

  • full tuition fees for four years of study at UCL
  • £24,500 maintenance per year
  • Financial contributions towards technical equipment, visa fees and NHS surcharge fees.

Dedicated pastoral support

You'll be supported throughout your studies by a dedicated Telles Scholars Tutor – an academic from the Faculty of Engineering.

They will meet with you as a group every term to discuss progress, help resolve problems and offer guidance.

Requirements

To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:

To be considered for the Telles Scholarship and the Undergraduate Preparatory Certificates (UPC) you will need to check that you meet the following entry requirements:

  • eligibility
  • academic requirements
  • English language requirements.

Entry requirements

You will need to complete the four stages of the UPC application process:

  • application form and supporting documents
  • entrance tests
  • financial assessment
  • interview.

Academic requirements

You must have completed high school in Brazil - usually within two years of the UPC start date - and have achieved the Certificado de Conclusão de Ensino Médio with an overall average of 8/10 with 8/10 in relevant academic subjects.

If you graduated from high school more than two years before the UPC start date and are thinking of applying, please email us first with information on your past studies and details of experience(s) relevant to your future studies, so we can assess your suitability.

English language requirements

The English language requirements for UPC applicants aiming for Computer Science BSc and Mechanical Engineering BEng are either:

  • IELTS for UKVI (Academic): A minimum of 6.0 overall and a minimum of 5.5 in three components, and a minimum of 5.0 in the fourth
  • Pearson PTE Academic UKVI: A minimum of 59 overall and a minimum of 54 in three components, and a minimum of 46 in the fourth.

For Electronic and Electrical Engineering BEng, the requirements are either:

  • IELTS for UKVI (Academic): A minimum of 6.0 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in three components, and a minimum of 5.5 in the fourth
  • Pearson PTE Academic UKVI: A minimum of 59 overall and a minimum of 59 in three components, and a minimum of 54 in the fourth.

You can apply without an English language test result (read more in 'Application and supporting documents' below), but please include it in your application if you have one.

We can provide some financial support in taking one of these tests if you haven't already and you receive an offer for the Telles Scholarship.

Further information on this support will be provided to you during the application process.

Application Documents

  • Completed application form including a personal statement.
  • Certified (and if available translated) copy of your school transcripts.
  • Copy of your English language test score - an IELTS for UKVI (Academic) or Pearson PTE Academic UKVI if you have one. You can submit an application before you have taken one of these tests, but please note one of these test results will be required for you to be eligible for your Student Visa.
  • A reference on headed school paper, stamped and signed.
