The Birch Family Scholarship supports a postgraduate student of colour with home fee status who has applied for the MA Creative Writing (Poetry) at UEA’s School of Literature, Drama, and Creative Writing. The scholarship aims to empower diverse voices in poetry and help remove financial barriers to further study.
Total value: £12,500, which includes support for:
Tuition fees
Living/maintenance costs
To apply, candidates must:
Be paying UK (Home) fees
Identify as a writer of colour
Have applied for the MA Creative Writing (Poetry) starting September 2025
Demonstrate genuine financial need
Not be in receipt of any other donor-funded scholarships
Commitment to poetry and literary excellence
Quality and promise of poetic writing
Demonstrated financial need
Willingness to participate in scholarship activities:
Submit a poem for publication by Ink Sweat & Tears
Read at a Writers Event during the academic year
Completed scholarship application form
Evidence of offer for the MA course
Proof of financial need
Additional documents as outlined in the scholarship form
