The Chancellor's Fund at Abertay University 2025-2026

The Chancellor’s Fund is for PhD, MPhil and Masters students to meet expenditure relating to training and development in their specific area of research, up to a maximum of £5000.

Through a generous gift from Lord Cullen, The Chancellor’s Fund is designed to assist PhD, MPhil, and Masters Students to meet expenditure relating to training and development in their specific area of research. This is for funding in support of travel, training courses, conferences and networking opportunities relating to the applicant's specific area of research. It does NOT cover the costs associated with the research project, such as data collection.

The Fund provides a total annual disbursement of up to £5000.

Requirements

To be considered for this award applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be a postgraduate research student, currently registered at Abertay University in Dundee.
• The application must be for expenditure relating to your specific area of research, such as expenditure on travel, conferences and networking opportunities.
• You must be willing to meet the award conditions set out below.
• Students in receipt of another funding award which includes an allowance for travel and conference attendance are ineligible for this award.

If you have received another funding award which includes an allowance for travel and conference attendance, you are NOT eligible for this award. The Fund cannot be used to assist you meeting costs related to your research and is not for general living expenses.

You must meet the following award conditions if you accept:

• Complete a thank you note and feedback form.
• Write and share a short report on the event or activity that you attended or undertook.
• Give permission for parts of note of thanks or report to be quoted in promotional materials.
• Be willing to meet with representatives of the scholarship if required.
• Take part in promotional activity relating to the award.
• Be willing to present a seminar or training session, or provide training materials prepared by you, to show what you learnt at the event.
• Be willing to take part in publicity materials for the award and associated marketing materials.
