The Gaelic Books Council Scholarship at University of Stirling 2025-2026

The Gaelic Books Council offer a full scholarship for the University of Stirling MLitt Publishing Studies for the academic year 2025-26, awarded to a student with fluent written and spoken Scottish Gaelic.

The scholarship includes placement opportunities in the Gaelic publishing industry and requires the student to complete a dissertation or digital project on a topic relevant to the Gaelic publishing industry.

Benefits

The scholarship covers Home/EU course fees (£9,500 in 2025-26) and a travel and subsistence bursary of up to £2,000.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken Scottish Gaelic.
  • Applicants should have a good first degree (2:1 or higher); we do not make any stipulation on the area of undergraduate study.
  • Applicants should have a demonstrable interest in publishing and the wider book industry.
  • The MLitt is a full year course, beginning on 22 September 2025 and is taught in person, on the University of Stirling campus.
  • The Award may be combined with other awards, including with a merit scholarship, or University of Stirling graduate discount. However, the main award covers Home/EU fees only and the  travel and subsistence bursary is awarded up to a maximum of £2,000 per annum. 

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview in the week of 18 August. Part of the interview will be conducted in Gaelic.

How To Apply

Make a full application (including a personal statement and one reference) for a place on the MLitt in Publishing Studies via the University of Stirling Admissions Office.

Write an additional personal statement in Gaelic (1,500 words maximum), detailing how you would benefit from the scholarship in your career and what you perceive to be the importance and opportunities of Gaelic publishing. Please include your name on the document. Email this as a PDF to [email protected], with 'Gaelic Books Council' as the subject heading, along with a covering message in English.
