The Rhodes Scholarship for China 2026

The Rhodes Scholarship is a fully-funded postgraduate award which enables talented young people from around the world to study full-time at the University of Oxford. The Rhodes Scholarship is merit-based, with the purpose of developing public-spirited leaders, and to promote international understanding and peace through an international community of Scholars.

Benefits

Following selection for the Scholarship, the Rhodes Trust will also cover: 

  • The fee required to apply to study at the University of Oxford 

  • Fees for a student visa and associated International Health Surcharge (IHS), which enables international students to access the UK's National Health Service 

  • Two economy class flights to and from the UK, for the beginning and end of studies in Oxford. 

Requirements

  • Constituency: You must apply for the Rhodes Scholarship in the China constituency. If you are also eligible for the Hong Kong constituency, you must choose only one to apply through, or your application will be disqualified.
  • Nationality/Citizenship: You must be a citizen of the People's Republic of China.
  • Age Criteria: You must meet one of the following:
    • Standard Age: Be aged 18-23 on October 1, 2025 (born between October 2, 2001, and October 1, 2007, inclusive).
    • Older Candidates (with recent degree): Be under the age of 27 on October 1, 2025 (born after October 1, 1998) AND have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after October 1, 2024.
  • Academic Achievement:
    • You must have completed an undergraduate degree (normally a Bachelor's degree) by July 2026.
    • Your academic background and grades must, at a minimum, meet or exceed the specific entry requirements of your chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford.
    • Candidates with a First Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) or a GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher have a higher chance of successful admission.
  • English Language Criteria: You must have a sufficiently high standard of English to meet the University of Oxford's English language proficiency requirements (at the Higher Level). Alternatively, if you qualify for a waiver of the English Language test, you may request one.

  • You can demonstrate sustained and outstanding achievement in your chosen pursuit.

Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship 

  • You seek to live out your values in all that you do.

  • Serving others is a duty you take seriously, whether your community is large or small, local or international.

Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings

  • You have the courage to act on your initiative and inspire others to follow.

  • You demonstrate leadership in both thought and action.
