UAL Summer Hardship Fund 2025

The Summer Hardship Fund at the University of the Arts London (UAL) is a non-repayable, means-tested award designed to support students facing financial difficulties over the summer period and is available to all students currently enrolled on any undergraduate, graduate diploma or postgraduate course.

Benefits

  • The award provides financial assistance with living costs only (not tuition fees).
  • Award amounts vary depending on individual circumstances and priority group eligibility.
  • Awards are paid in one instalment and do not need to be repaid.

Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate diploma, or postgraduate course at UAL.

  • Be studying full-time or at least 50% of a full-time course (or at least 25% if you have a disability).

  • Demonstrate financial need with total household income under £55,000.

  • Have made adequate financial provision for your studies.

  • Declare and evidence all income, including benefits if applicable.

  • Not have already received an award from the Summer Hardship Fund for the same priority group earlier in the academic year (2024/25).

Priority will be given to students who can evidence they meet one or more of the following:

  • Have caring responsibilities

  • Are care leavers (undergraduate only)

  • Have a disability or chronic illness that affects employment

  • Are estranged from parents (undergraduate only)

  • Have significant debts

  • Are victims of fraud causing hardship

  • Have experienced recent bereavement or other serious unexpected events

You can only receive support under a maximum of two priority groups.

How To Apply

Applications for the Summer Hardship Fund must be made by filling in an online application form via the "my Funding and Finance" tab in the UAL Student Portal.

Please log in to the student portal, select the ‘my Funding and Finance’ tab and proceed to select "Search and Apply for Funding"; this should bring up the Summer Hardship Fund, for you to complete and submit.

In addition to the online application form, you'll need to upload the supporting evidence applicable to you as highlighted in the relevant guidance notes below.

All applicants will be informed of the final decision via email. Emails will be sent to the student's UAL email address.
