University of Edinburgh Doctoral College Scholarship 2024

The School of Chemistry will offer three Edinburgh Doctoral College Scholarships for a student starting their PhD research at the University in the 2024 -2025 academic session.

These 48-month awards cover the tuition fees plus stipend equal to UKRI minimum rate for the relevant academic year (approximately £18,622 per year).

In order to attract the best and brightest PhD students, the University seeks to offer not only unparalleled research facilities and superb supervision, but also to provide development opportunities, which will support our research students as they progress beyond their PhD, through this scholarship.

This exciting scholarship scheme provides a valuable opportunity for postgraduate research students to undertake a package of training and development that will help them to develop the necessary skills required to meet their career choices combining development opportunities in research and teaching.

The University of Edinburgh has been working for some time to embed equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in its activities and to widen participation (WP) for students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds. The Doctoral College is committed to embedding EDI in all of its policies and processes, and by widening access to postgraduate study to traditionally underrepresented groups, including BAME students and those from the most deprived communities in Scotland and the rest of the world. Requirements for University of Edinburgh PhD Scholarship Qualification

  • Students must already be enrolled in a full-time or part-time PhD research program at the university that is offered on campus.
  • Applicants must first obtain the backing of a potential supervisor whose research interests coincide with their own.

How to Apply

Applicants must have already applied for admission to a full-time or part-time on campus PhD research programme of study at the University. We encourage applicants who wish to apply for this scholarship to make contact with their academic school regarding any admission deadlines.

Applicants who wish to apply for this scholarship are first required to secure the support of a prospective supervisor whose research aligns with the applicant’s own interests.

Please check the Entry Requirements for your proposed programme of study for details of other acceptable English language qualifications.

You may apply for the scholarship prior to obtaining the necessary English language test results but the results should be uploaded as soon as possible.

These awards cannot be held concurrently with fully-funded scholarships but can be held with partially-funded scholarships and will be reduced pro-rata.

Application Procedure

If you wish to commence a new programme of study in September 2024 you must ensure that you have fully completed and submitted your PhD programme application for admission using the University's online Application system by no later than 15th December 2023 to allow time for your application to progress through the system so that the Scholarship application form will be available to you.

Applicants must have submitted their fully completed PhD programme application in order to be considered for the scholarship.

The deadline for applying for the scholarship is 4th January 2024.

You will not be able to access the online scholarship application form unless you have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh and have your University username and password.

The online scholarship application form is located in EUCLID and can be accessed via MyEd our web based information portal.

When logging into MyEd, you will need your University username and password. If you require assistance, please go to the Support and Guidance website

Please note: the Personal Statement for your scholarship application should clearly state why you are applying for this scholarship, why you are interested in the research topic of your choice, and what benefit the scholarship will have for your research and career plans.  We are looking for evidence on how the PhD programme fits with your career aspirations and how you plan to take best advantage of the opportunities on offer.
