Requirements
- These scholarships are restricted to students who are from Latin America and are ordinarily resident in one of the following countries:
- Country: Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela.
- Department: Department of Language and Linguistics
- Applicants from other English-speaking islands in the Caribbean will also be considered
- Applicants must have received a conditional firm or unconditional firm offer to study full time MA Translation, Interpreting & Subtitling or MA Translation & Professional Practice (Spanish or Portuguese strands only) at the University of Essex starting in the academic year 2025-26.
- Applicants must apply using the application form on the web pages by the closing date of 30 June 2025.
- Only one scholarship award can be made per student and the award cannot be held in conjunction with any other University of Essex scholarships.
- This scholarship is available for the first year of Master’s study at Essex only;
- Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities.
Students who are not eligible
The following students are NOT eligible for this scholarship regardless of meeting the above criteria:
- This scholarship award does not apply to deferred entry. Where a scholarship has been awarded to a student who subsequently defers entry to the following academic year, the award will be withdrawn and the applicant will be considered again in line with the terms and conditions that apply in the new proposed year of entry.
- The scholarship cannot be continued for students repeating periods of study in any circumstances.
Interview Dates and Process
Selection will be based on your eligibility and the information and supporting statements that you provide as part of the application process.
An initial review will take place to ensure applications meet the criteria listed. All applications that meet the criteria will be passed to a panel within the Department of Language and Linguistics.
As part of your application, you will be required to submit the following:
– A 500-word statement about why the scholarship would be beneficial to you.
Notification
You will be notified of the award via email to the email account that you included on your application no later than 31 July 2025
You must accept your offer of the scholarship within two weeks of an offer being made, otherwise the offer will be forfeited and awarded to the next eligible candidate
