If you're an international student from a member state of the African Union and are self-funding your postgraduate studies, you could be eligible for a scholarship, paid as a discount on your tuition fee.

Benefits
The successful candidates are awarded a tuition fee discount based on the following quota:
- Egypt: GBP 6,500
- Ghana: GBP 4,500
- Nigeria: GBP 4,500
- All other member states of the African Union:GBP 4,500
Requirements
- Applicants must be regular residents of an African Union member state.
- Applicants must fulfill the following academic requirements:
- Egypt: 2:1 or above
- Ghana: 2:1 | CGPA 3.0/4.0 or CGPA 3.5/5.0
- Nigeria (any of the following conditions):
- CGPA 3/5 or above or CGPA 2.50/4.0, or 4.00/6.00 or 4.00/7.00
- A pass grade for Medical Degrees awarded by an approved Nigerian Institution
- Other member states of the African Union: 2:1 or above (or equivalent as defined by the Postgraduate Admissions selection criteria)
- Applicants must fall under the category of overseas fee payers and be entirely self-funded.
- Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree.
- Applicants must register at the University of Essex in October 2025 or January 2026 for the first year of a full-time Masters course in the academic year 2025-26 only.
- Successful applicants should be available for promotional activities.

If you meet all the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be considered for this award. You don’t need to complete an application form. The University will assess your eligibility based on your country of domicile and fee status that you submit on your application for your place at Essex.
