The University of Essex is awarding scholarships to EU postgraduate taught (Masters) students who are classified as international students for fees purposes.

Benefits
£5000 if studying full time. £2500 in year 1 and 2 if studying part time
Requirements
- These scholarships are restricted to students who are overseas fee payers and are entirely self funded*.
- Students must be ordinarily resident (see below for the definition of ordinary residence) in an EU country.
- Students studying University of Essex Online courses, delivered by the University of Essex.
- Students must register at the University of Essex in October 2026 or January 2027 for the first year of a full-time or part time Masters course in academic year 2026-27 only, leading to the degree of
- MA, MSc, LLM, MFA, MPP, MBM
- The award may be held in conjunction with the Early Bird Discount and cannot be held in conjunction with any other University of Essex scholarships. Students who are eligible for this University of Essex award and are joining Essex through a link agreement, which includes a discounted fee, will receive the award which is greater in value.
- This discount is available for the first year of full-time study or the first two years of part-time study starting in 2026-27 only.
- Successful students should be available for promotional activities.
- *Students receiving a repayable loan to fund their studies will be considered as self-funded.
Students who are not eligible
- Students studying University of Essex Online courses, delivered in partnership with Kaplan Open Learning.
- Students who are not ordinarily resident in an EU country.
- Students who are fully or partially sponsored by their government or other external agency and are not required to make any repayments (this does not include VISA sponsorship)
- Students undertaking the Essex MBA, for which we offer a separate scholarship.
- Students awarded the scholarship who defer entry to following academic years will be ineligible to receive the award and will be considered in line with the terms and conditions that apply in the new proposed year of entry.
- Students who are transferring to Essex under a formal, progression link or dual degree arrangement with a link institution aboard, for whom other discounting arrangements apply, or are eligible for a Global Partner Scholarship.
- Students who are assessed as paying home tuition fees.
- University of Essex International College (UEIC) Pathway students.
- Current students whose first year of Postgraduate study at the University of Essex, was prior to academic year 2026-27

- Apply for a postgraduate taught degree at University of Essex
- If you meet all the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be considered for this award. You don’t need to complete an application form. The University will assess your eligibility based on your country of domicile and fee status that you submit on your application for your place at Essex.
