University of Kent 2025 KMMS Canterbury City Council Scholarship

Open to Kent & Medway Medical School (KMMS) applicants only. This scholarship has been generously funded by Canterbury City Council, to support widening participation activities in Canterbury and Kent.   The scholarship offers £5,000 per annum to a student enrolled on the Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery course who demonstrates the need for maintenance support during their studies.

Aim and Benefits of University of Kent Undergraduate Scholarship

£25,000 maintenance allowance - Made up of £5,000 per annum for 5 years


Requirements for University of Kent Undergraduate Scholarship Qualification

  • Have accepted an unconditional or firmly accepted a conditional offer from the Kent and Medway Medical School to study Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery  commencing September 2025
  • Provide evidence of financial hardship 
  • Provide evidence of ongoing commitment to activities that benefit the community in Canterbury or Kent
  • Must have lived in, worked or been educated in Canterbury or must have previous evidenced Canterbury connections. Evidence could be birth, residence of immediate family at any time or education (post primary) 

    Additional factors which will be taken in account include belonging to a category of disadvantage such as first in family to go to university, registered young carer or care leaver. Should no suitable candidates from Canterbury apply, the scholarship will be offered to an eligible student from wider Kent. 

 



Interview date, Process and Venue for University of Kent Undergraduate Scholarship

  • A 500 word statement titled 'Why I should be considered for the Canterbury City Council Scholarship'
  • Written confirmation from the local authority of current/previous looked-after status - if applicable
  • Evidence of having lived, worked or been educated in the Canterbury Council area, or (second preference) in adjacent areas of Kent. 
  • Written confirmation of benefit award/tax credit notice, in the name of the student (vulnerable or discretionary) or parent (discretionary) 
  • Documents to support financial status such as:
    • 16-19 Bursary;
    • UCAT Bursary;
    • benefits statement;
    • P60 End of Year certificate or Self Assessment; or
    • previous 3 months payslips for adults in the household.

All documents should be uploaded in either Microsoft Word or PDF format.
