University of Stirling 2024 John Robert Hamilton Memorial Scholarship

The John Robert Hamilton Memorial Scholarship is available to give financial support to postgraduate students taking their history Masters degree at the University of Stirling. The annual scholarship of £1,000 is, in the words of the donor Ruth Wright, intended to ‘help to relieve the financial pressures, which make academic life so difficult.’

About University of Stirling

John Robert Hamilton Memorial Scholarship provides an annual scholarship of GBP 1,000 to help relieve financial pressures.


Requirements for University of Stirling Masters Scholarship Qualification

  • Applicants must be born in the UK.
  • Applicants must be graduates of a Scottish university or the Open University.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in MRes Historical Research at the University of Stirling.

How to Apply

Applicants will be considered automatically upon application to the MRes Historical Research.

The John Robert Hamilton Memorial Scholarship is awarded after open competition subject to the following criteria. 

Potential Masters degree recipients must:

  1. have been born in the UK
  2. be a graduate of a Scottish university or the Open University
  3. research an aspect of Scottish History
  4. be a registered student at the University of Stirling

If these conditions cannot be met in full in a specific year, then the division of History, Heritage and Politics has the discretion to use that year’s award to fund research by current postgraduates within History, Heritage and Politics.
