Requirements

Open to students from USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands and Guam.

To be eligible for a Global Opportunities Award, you must:

• have a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of York by 31 August 2025
• be paying fees at the overseas fee rate (any fee assessments must be completed by 31 August 2025) 
• intend to study a full-time postgraduate taught course.

You will not be eligible if:

• you hold a 100% tuition fee scholarship or are fully sponsored.

Students on the following pathways are not eligible for these scholarships:

• Hull York Medical School
• MSc Nursing (Mental Health) and MSc Nursing (Adult)
• LLM Professional Legal Practice (SQE1 and SQE2)
• International Pathway College
• Distance and online learning courses
• Part-time courses
• Kaplan International College London
• MA Public Policy (Mundus MAPP)
• Postgraduate Research courses

When you receive your scholarship letter, you must:

• accept the scholarship offer by using the link provided within the offer letter
• accept your offer of admission from York
• if applicable, pay a tuition fee deposit of £3,000 by the date specified in your scholarship offer. Learn more about the tuition fee deposit.

Please refer to your scholarship award letter for full terms and conditions.

If you have been informed that you require a credibility interview, your scholarship will be conditional on the successful outcome of this interview. Should you be unsuccessful, the scholarship offer will be rescinded.

If you defer your place at the University of York you cannot keep your scholarship.

The Global Opportunities Award may be combined with University of York departmental scholarships as long as this does not exceed 100% of your tuition fees.

The University reserves the right to withdraw the scholarship offer to new applicants and offer holders at any time, so earliest possible acceptance is advised. 

Students who have applied for FAFSA, listed the University of York as their institution of choice, and received approval are required to inform the Student Finance Team of this automatic scholarship. This step ensures proper processing and application of your financial aid towards your tuition and associated costs. There is no need to formally apply for the scholarship. All eligible postgraduate taught students holding an offer at York will receive this scholarship.
