UWS WEST Scholarship Programme 2025-2026

The WEST (Widening Education and Supporting Talent) Scholarship Programme helps remove financial barriers that stop students from progressing throughout their degree to graduation. Applications are particularly welcome from students who may face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study and staying in their studies at UWS.

Benefits

Undergraduate students: eligible to receive a WEST Scholarship of £1,250 per academic year, for up to four years.

Postgraduate students: eligible to receive a WEST Scholarship from £1,250 per academic year, for up to two years.

Nationality: Scottish or have been living in Scotland as a full-time resident for at least the past three years.

Requirements

Applications are particularly welcome from students who may face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study and staying in their studies at UWS. This may include students who:

• Are from low-income backgrounds
• Are care experienced (e.g. spent time in foster care, residential care, kinship care, looked-after at home under supervision)
• Are estranged from family or living without family support
• Are a young or unpaid carer for a child or adult who requires additional support
• Are a single parent
• Are the first in their family to attend university
