The Gateway Scholarship at York St John University provides vital financial support to UK undergraduate students who face significant barriers to higher education. Generously funded by a university alumna and her partner, the scholarship awards £2,000 per academic year—paid in two instalments—for the duration of the student’s degree. It is intended to assist students who are mature learners, carers, care leavers, or those whose education was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Applications are open from April until Monday 27 October 2025 at 9.00am, and must be completed using the online application form. As part of the process, applicants will be required to submit a 500-word supporting statement and a written reference from an independent referee. Applicants should have their York St John applicant number or student ID ready, as this will be used to verify eligibility.
Successful applicants will receive £2,000 per academic year, in two instalments, throughout their degree.

Be a UK student
Have applied to or be currently enrolled in an undergraduate course at York St John University
