University of Kent Edmund Boyo Scholarship 2025

The Edmund Boyo Scholarship supports Black students from lower socio-economic backgrounds who are pursuing a Bachelor of Law (with Honours) at the University of Kent. Funded by a generous donation, this award aims to reduce financial barriers and promote greater access to higher education. The scholarship offers a full Home tuition fee waiver (currently £9,535 per year) for the duration of the degree, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Benefits

  • Full Home Tuition Fee Waiver
    The scholarship covers the entire cost of Home tuition fees for the duration of the awardee's undergraduate Law degree (normally £9,535 per year, subject to change based on tuition fee adjustments).

  • Award Duration
    The fee waiver is provided for up to 3 years, the standard duration of a full-time Bachelor of Law (with Honours) degree, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

  • No Repayment Required
    This is a non-repayable scholarship, not a loan.

Requirements

All candidates eligible for the Edmund Boyo Scholarship must:

  • Have accepted an unconditional or firmly accepted a conditional offer from the University of Kent to study Bachelor of Law (with Honours).
  • Be a Home fee paying student.
  • Be from the Black ethnic group.
  • Applicants must have applied for a tuition fee loan from Student Finance England and be able to provide evidence as a part of their scholarship application. Applicants from a lower socio-economic background will be prioritised.
  • Applicants being the first in their family to attend university will also be prioritised.

How To Apply

Applicants must apply via KentVision, where they must provide a statement of no more than 500 words, describing their motivations for study at the University of Kent and how the scholarship will support their studies.

The successful applicant will be chosen on the basis of:

  • Demonstration of financial hardship (The student must have made an application for student support to Student Finance England. Student Finance England use the student’s household income to assess whether the student is eligible to receive a bursary. If the student is eligible to receive a bursary, then they will have demonstrated socio-economic need as required by the criteria of the scholarship).
  • A level results or equivalent.
  • Strength of 500 word statement,

If your application goes to panel you may be asked to attend an online interview via Microsoft Teams (details tbc).
