The Denis Henry Desty Undergraduate Scholarship programme supports students from under-represented backgrounds in their chemistry studies.
The programme was established in memory of Denis Henry Desty, who studied chemistry at Southampton in the 1940s and went on to become a pioneer in the fields of chromatography and combustion science.
Students on our four-year MChem programmes who meet the criteria below will have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship of £2,000 per year, for each year they are studying at Southampton.
Each recipient will receive up to £8,000 during the four-year course, depending on whether they undertake a paid placement year as part of their studies, during which they would not receive a payment.
Two Denis Henry Desty Undergraduate Scholarships will be awarded each year. We will use the University’s contextual admissions criteria to identify students from under-represented backgrounds; eligible students are invited to apply for the scholarship (via an online application form) once they have selected Southampton as their first-choice University.
