The University of Kent is committed to supporting the personal and professional development of its staff. As part of this commitment, the University offers financial assistance to eligible employees who wish to pursue further education. Specifically, staff members who enroll in part-time studies at the University of Kent may be entitled to a subsidy covering a portion of their tuition fees, subject to certain conditions outlined below.

Benefits

The University of Kent will cover 50% of home tuition fees for any staff member who:

  1. Is accepted for and registers as a part-time student of the University.

  2. Remains employed by the University.

Requirements

To qualify for staff tuition fee support, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a contracted appointment that is at least 0.5 FTE (equivalent to 17.5 hours per week or 616 hours per year), and the contract must be for at least one year,
    OR

  • Have worked for the University for an average of at least 300 hours per year in the current and two previous years,
    OR

  • Have undertaken part-time teaching for an average of at least three hours per week in the current and two previous years.

Additional Notes:

  • Staff on Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) contracts are not eligible for this fee remission scheme.

  • Contract details (e.g., FTE or appointment status) can be confirmed by line managers or relevant administrators via Staff Connect.

  • Schools/Departments may verify hours worked on HPL or Timesheet contracts with the Pay Office, if not available locally. Please note the Income Office does not hold this information.

  • It is the responsibility of the staff member to ensure that the tuition fee support form is fully completed and submitted.

How To Apply

You need to apply for Staff Fee Remission via Kent Vision. Once you have logged into your account, you will need to go to 'My Fees and Finance' then select 'My Scholarships and Bursaries'. You will be able to select 'Apply for Funding' and will need to choose Staff Fee Remission. Complete the Fee Remission Funding Form which can be located in Kent Vision or via this link. The form will need to be signed by the relevant signatories before you upload this into Kent Vision.

Once approved you will be asked to accept the terms and conditions. This will complete the process and your staff fee remission will be allocated to your account.
